Truly, Madly, Deeply…

Every once in a while, life will bring you treasures.

Treasures that you keep in a safe, walk into a fire for, or take with you in case of evacuation. Treasures you would hope to have with you if ever stranded on a deserted island or lost at sea.

Funny, when we really think about it, these things aren’t always the most practical, useful or necessary in any of these situations, but instead hold the utmost value to us, simply because of memories they bring or what they symbolize.

Our hearts somehow find courage, strength and determination in these treasures, when all hope seems lost. They remind us of who we were, who we are, and who we want to become.

Today, I received my treasure. The ring I had made with my dad’s fingerprint, engraved with his final words to me. I immediately placed it on my finger and burst into tears of longing for my daddy.

Is he really gone? He was just here! That tough, stubborn man was suppose to outlive all of us! And now, I suppose, I hold him with me closer than I ever could. In my heart and in my being. Who he was is who I am. And who I will become will be his legacy.

I miss you pop. Truly, madly, deeply. I miss you.
